BEAST (http://www.beastrace.com) stands for Barebones Evening Adventure Sprint Tournament, a series of very short adventure races held on weeknights in the greater Seattle area. The events involve mountain biking, running, and map reading, and they're barebones, meaning the emphasis is on providing a quality course without a lot of the frills. This is a great race series to get your traininig in for longer Adventure Races and practice your navigation skills.
Street Scramble and Night and Day Challenge
Both the Street Scramble Series (http://www.streetscramble.com/) and the Night and Day Challenge Series (http://www.nightanddaychallenge.com/) are a foot, bike, or duathlon race that brings you to nooks and crannies of a city in either the greater Seattle or San Francisco area you’ve never seen before. Checkpoints are placed throughout the city, with higher points assigned to checkponts that are more difficult to get to (more far out, higher elevation, etc). Racers have the option to do either a 1.5 hour or 3 hour race in the Street Scramble Series, and 3 hour, 7 hour or 16 hour race in the Night and Day Challenge. These are a great race to practice your USGS map reading and route planning skills, especially if you are interested in doing 24 hour rogaines at some point. Northwest Trail Runs One of our favoriate trail running series, the Northwest Trail Runs (http://www.nwtrailruns.com) are a series of non-competitive runs that range anywhere from 5 miles to half-marathon in length and are held at various scenic parks in the Seattle area. These runs are highly recommended training runs, especially if you want to do well in the foot section of Adventure Races.
